Minutes of a meeting of Llangunnor Parish Council held at Login Schoolroom on Thursday 21st February 1974 at 7.30pm

Present: Miss Gwyneth Jones (Chairman), Mrs ML Morris, Mrs B Morgan, Mrs E Jones, Mr G Tucker, Mr J Rees, Mr DR Jones. Mr DP Jones Mr DJD Morgan, Mr Dd James County Council ET Davies was also present

125. Apologies

An apology for absence was received from District Councillor EJ Thomas

126. Minutes The Minutes of a meeting of the Council held on the 14th January were read, verified as correct and signed by the Chairman.

127. Telephone Kiosk at Sub-Post Office, Brynmeurig (Reference Minute No.116)

The Clerk reported having received a letter from the Telephones Manager, Swansea, stating that the Council’s request that a Telephone Kiosk be provided outside the new Sub-Post Office 31 Brynmeurig was receiving attention.

128. Abandoned Cars (Reference Minute No.121)

It was reported that the abandoned cars were still to be found behind Rhos Las, Tregynnwr and it was agreed that the attention of the Carmarthen Rural District Council be drawn yet again to this complaint

129. Parking of Heavy Lorries – Tregynnwr

The Clerk was directed to draw the attention of the Carmarthen Rural District Council again to the nuisance caused by the parking of heavy vehicles on the car park at Tregynnwr.

130. Flooding No.56 Brynmeurig (Reference Minute No.123)

The Clerk reported that a Surveyor from the Carmarthen Rural District Council had visited No.56 Brynmeurig and had found that a water course on the dwelling house side of the boundary had been filled. This, it was alleged has caused the flooding.

Members contended that in the levelling of the access to the playing field, the natural flow of water could also have been interfered with and that this could be a contributory factor to the flooding.

It was agreed that this matter be investigated.

131. Play Areas

A letter was received from the Carmarthen Rural District Council stating that the matter of releasing land to the Parish Council for play areas had been passed to the reorganised District Council for consideration along with matters affecting other housing estates.

132. Welsh Office Circulars

The contents of Circulars from the Welsh Office regarding the transfer of property and staff to the Community Council were noted.

133. Royal National Eisteddford ‘Bro Myrddin’ 1974

The Clerk reported that two replies only had been received from the various organisations written to in connection with the appeal made for funds towards the 1975 Royal National Eisteddford, namely from:

  • Cymdeithas Sant Cynwr who had indicated their intention to contribute £50 and from
  • St Cynwr’s Women’s Institute who had agreed to make a donation from functions to be held

Mr WG Tucker offered to arrange a “Sporting Film Show Evening” on the 4th April 1974 as a further effort to raise funds,

It was also agreed that a sum of £50 be earmarked from the Council’s finds towards the Eisteddford, the sum to be reviews when the total proceeds became known.

134. Council for the Protection of Rural Wales

An invitation was received from the Council for the Protection of Rural Wales to be represented at a Conference to be held at Aberystwyth on the 5th and 6th April and to a meeting to be held at Carmarthen on the 23rd February.

It was decided that the Council be not represented at the former but that Mrs LM Morris should represent the Council at the latter.

135. Road Safety

Mr JDJ Morgan conveyed a request from Mr Perry, Virginia Lodge, Pensarn, that a pedestrian access be formed from Babell Hill with a connection footpath to Penymorfa Road in order that children would not have to be subjected to the heavy traffic at Pensarn whilst walking to school.

It was agreed that a request be made to the Director of Education.

136. Sticle Footpath Mr WG Tucker raised the question of the upgrading of Sticle footpath and asked whether this could now be done in view of the fact that the Carmarthen By-pass was not imminent at the present time.

It was resolved that the Highway Authority be asked to look at this problem most seriously and be requested to carry out some remedial work without delay.

137. Play Equipment Mr JDJ Morgan request the Council to consider making a contribution towards the purchase of play equipment for the use of pupils attending Llangunnor CP School.

It was resolved that £50 be donated if it was legally possible to do so.

138. Meeting It was agreed that the final meeting of the Parish Council be held on the 28th March 1974 139. Finance
